During its weekly session on Sunday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, the Cabinet approved a comprehensive national healthcare policy alongside a series of administrative measures aimed at enhancing the country’s healthcare system.
National Policy and Strategy for Quality and Patient Safety 2025-2030
The Cabinet formally endorsed the National Policy and Strategy for Quality and Patient Safety 2025-2030, a framework developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). This policy sets out a unified approach to healthcare standards nationwide, introducing consistent quality metrics and safety protocols for all healthcare providers.
Key Components of the Healthcare Strategy
The strategy emphasizes several key components, including robust governance mechanisms, streamlined data integration processes, and initiatives to strengthen the healthcare workforce. It is designed to align with global healthcare best practices while supporting Jordan’s broader economic goals, particularly those outlined in the Economic Modernization Vision.
New Regulations for Birth and Death Surveillance
In tandem with the national healthcare policy, the Cabinet also approved new regulations for birth and death surveillance. These measures mandate a 24-hour reporting requirement for all births and deaths, ensuring timely and accurate data collection. Additionally, the regulations establish four national registries under the Ministry of Health:
Four National Registries Under the Ministry of Health
- A comprehensive birth and death registry to track vital statistics.
- A maternal mortality database focusing on fatalities among women of reproductive age.
- A fetal and neonatal mortality registry to monitor deaths occurring up to 28 days after birth.
- A specialized registry for demographic and pathological monitoring, as determined by the Health Minister.
Strengthening Jordan’s Healthcare Infrastructure
These reforms aim to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure, improve patient safety, and ensure alignment with international standards, marking a significant step forward in Jordan’s healthcare modernization efforts.
